Surfs Up

Posted on Oct 10, 2011 in photography

I went out at Sunset yesterday to one of my favorite places to photograph – Scripps Pier La Jolla.  It was pretty much a cloudless and sunny warm day – typically La Jolla.  While taking pictures you have to be open minded about what you are going to shoot because what you originally intended to take a picture of might not work.  For example, I went to take a picture of the pier but there was this guy that kept jumping into the shot with his own camera – rude.  So I turned around and saw this surfer running to the water to catch the last set of waves before sunset.  This is what La Jolla is all about.

Born to be Wild

I am not sure if you are aware but my niece Lucy is a pretty avid bike rider.  She rides pretty cool motorcycles and takes off on the road for days on end.  When she is happy she will give you a thumbs up as she rides by, when she disapproves of you she will show you with a definitive thumbs down.  Check out this wild child on her new Harley and you will be amazed.

Mini Man Pictures

Posted on Oct 9, 2011 in photography

I was browsing the internet and I found some neat photographs that people were taking of miniatures.  I decided to give it a shot myself so I bought a little astronaut and went out the backyard.  I snapped this picture.  We are so close to getting a little mini-man on the moon.  This could save America if we could.

Having a baby

Posted on Oct 8, 2011 in Family

Michelle, my sister in law and Bill my brother are finally having a baby.  They have wanted a baby for a long time and Michelle is due this December.  December 31st to be exact so the baby girl will either be close to the last baby of 2011 or perhaps the first baby of the new year 2012.  I took some pictures of them today.  It was a first for me and I have never taken pictures for an expecting mother but it was quite fun and both she and Bill did great.

Taking the Canadian Pacific

Trains make great subjects for photo’s.  They give the feeling of old school travel. I always take the opportunity to take photographs of trains as they are arriving in destinations.  This particular train arrived into Lake Louis Train Station at 8 in the morning, it was a freight train probably harboring hobo’s and a load of coal.

Storm moving in

There is a big storm moving into San Diego from Alaska.  The winds on the beach were howling and it was just a matter of time before the heavy rains hit and they did.  This picture was taken of the lifeguard tower on abandoned Pacific Beach just moments before the big rains hit.

Pair of Canoes on a misty morning

Posted on Oct 5, 2011 in photography

I don’t often get up at 5:00 am to take pictures in fact I don’t think I have before.  I had always heard that to get the best photos that you had to get up early and get pictures at sunrise – and so I did.  It was a very cold morning and there was ice all over the ground.  When I got to the lake, I noticed two canoes tied up next to each other on the very calm lake – it was the picture of serenity.  I took a few pictures and they seemed to come out well.  There was a slight mist and fog in the air and the water was deathly calm.

Another beautiful San Diego Sunset

Do we ever get bored of beautiful sunsets here in San Diego?  The answer to that is of course no, even though we get hundreds of them every year.  San Diego really is one of the most beautiful places on the earth.
