Road Trippin to Wyoming

Posted on May 8, 2012 in Family, Travel

Kevin and I decided to take a little last minute adventure – one that should take us on a 3,500 mile round trip up to Wyoming and back.  Our first stop today was Las Vegas and on the way we stopped by a small town called Baker.  We found an old abandoned motel that looked like it might be inhabited by Zombies but we weren’t completely sure actually.  The adventure begins.  Tomorrow – Zion’s National Park and hopefully no Zombies tomorrow.

Kevin’s French Song

Posted on May 7, 2012 in Family, Music, photography

Kevin and I spent last Saturday filming a video for a beautiful arrangement that he put together with the theme song from Amelie.  Kevin spent a long time producing 4 separate guitar parts and fusing them together with some beautiful harmonics.  The song originally played on the accordion sounds beautiful on the guitar and even has a hint of Spanish influence.  It was a great day and Kevin made a beautiful song.

Sheila and Brian are having a baby

Posted on May 7, 2012 in Family, photography

Sheila and Brian are two of the happiest people in the world. On June 12th they are expecting a beautiful baby girl – Paige Rose Pozza and life promises to get very busy for them.  McCovey and Kobe, their puppies, are busy helping too – planning walks that all 5 of them can take together and also planning how many greeny treats that they will get if they behave nicely.

Brian, Sheila, Kobe and McCovey spent the afternoon in San Diego last week taking pictures in anticipation of the big day.  A nice day at La Jolla Beach and the park provided the perfect setting for taking happy pictures together and enjoying the beautiful spring like day.  Paige will be born in Cedars Sanai Hospital in West Hollywood – a place where many stars and starlets have been born and it promises to be a joy-filled day. Any many people will be awaiting her. Grandpa Tim, Grandpa Scott and Grandma Anna will undoubtedly be waiting anxiously for while Grandma Rose watches down from heaven. Welcome Paige, everyone cannot wait for you to arrive!

Saturday Morning Pancakes with Mom

Posted on May 2, 2012 in Family

My mom loves to cook. Even though she say’s that she does not have a lot of experience in the kitchen that is simply not true.  She raised 12 kids and always had time to cook breakfast, lunch and dinner for all 12.

This Saturday I had a chance to visit with my mom while she made BabyCakes Saturday Pancakes at her cottage in Coronado.  My mom’s kitchen is not only a shrine to BabyCakesNYC – it is actually the birth place of it.  My sister Erin spent months in this very kitchen trying out hundreds of recipes for vegan cupcakes.  One day she stumbled upon one and the rest of was history – BabyCakes was born.

Watching my mom cook, you realize that the first ingredient in any recipe is love and sharing- that after all is the whole point of baking.  Baking is meant for sharing and you can see why BabyCakes are so popular today – because love was their first ingredient.

A Day off with Tu

Posted on May 1, 2012 in Family

Tu and I took a day off work to do some fun and very intersting things together.  It was a really fun day.  We went to some great places, took pictures and really enjoyed a beautiful day together.  It’s nice to take a day off work and just relax while everyone else is working.  We went back to Del Mar today.. the place we first met and took some pictures from the first place that I ever took pictures of her. It was a very nice day, and as you can see Tu looked really beautiful today.  Even more beautiful than the first day that we met.

Spring time walk after work

Posted on Apr 27, 2012 in Family

One of the nicest things about daylight savings time is that after work you have a few hours of sun to enjoy the day.  We had some absolutely gorgeous weather again today in San Diego and Tu and I went walking at a little river that we found last Spring.  Tu spent the afternoon hunting down crawfish that scrambled in the underwater rocks.  She did catch one and gave it a kiss.  It’s another beautiful spring day here in San Diego.

The Quaint Seaside Neighborhood called Barber Tract

Posted on Apr 25, 2012 in photography

In 1899 a small seaside neighborhood named Neptunia in the beautiful seaside community of La Jolla was a scattering of a few artist homes and sand dunes.  In the 1920’s a man named Philip Barber who owned a steamship firm in New York moved to La Jolla with the vision of taking the beautiful coastline and developing a tract of homes in the area. According to Linda Marrone who wrote the story, “The History and Charm of the Barber Tract”;   He loved the area because the sand dunes and beaches reminded him of the area that he grew up in Long Island New York.

His plan was simple, he would divide up the coastline into small parcels of land and build architect designed homes on each plot.  Rather than build cookie cutter type homes – he built homes that resembled homes from different parts of Europe.  He wanted to bring a European feel to the beautiful sand dunes of La Jolla and wanted to do it elegantly and homes with charm.  He wanted to make people feel like they were in Europe.

Over the years his dream came true and he built up one of the first neighborhoods that thrived in the city of San Diego.  The quaint charm of the small neighborhood against the beautiful blue seas and sugar white sand beaches made this the place to live.  Unfortunately Philip Barber had to sell his own beautiful mansion during the Great Depression as he was financially strapped.  The neighborhood however has continued to thrive.   Much of the beautiful European and Beach charm is evident in almost every home.  As homes become to old and are wrecked, homeowners still build the new homes to fit the charm of the area.

The Beach Barber Tract extends from the world famous WindanSea Beach to Marine Street Beach.  This is arguably some of the most beautiful and scenic beach in the world.  It’s so nice that people such as Mitt Romney live here.  He is a regular at the beaches on his boogie board.

Small quaint homes line the streets.  This ivy covered Hansel and Gretel style cottage is an historical landmark and looks like it is straight out of a fairy tale.  Life is good for many here.

Streets are small and made for strolling, not busy traffic.  Names like “Fern Glen”, “Neptune” and “Sea Lane” capture the feeling of the friendly sea side neighborhood. People all say hello to each other as they pass each other by. It is a friendly place where life doesn’t move too quickly.

Some old, some new but all beautiful.  The eclectic style of homes are all marked by beautiful small gardens.  Gardens, flowers are a focal point for just about every home in the area; a source of pride for each homeowner. No one tries to have their garden out-cute the next, but somehow as you walk by each one does.

Everywhere you look you are reminded of the backdrop of this wonderful area.  Deep blue seas and white sand beaches are the canvas on which many of the beautiful homes are created.  People walk to the beach at Sunset, dip their toes in the water and are back home minutes later enjoying the views from their windows.

Hidden world class beaches are everywhere here.  Most passerby’s would not realize that beyond a fence, or down that small walkway awaits some of the most magnificent coastline in the world.  Take for example this fence.  This might keep out many passerby’s but local La Jollaner’s know that down that pathway are secluded beaches and smooth stone coastline that give you breathtaking views.

With an average temperature year-round of 72 degrees here and clear sunny skies, bike riding, jogging and walking are the predominant forms of transportation for people that live here.  The California Scenic route extends down coast boulevard and you will see many people getting their exercise in the cool morning weather. It is particularly nice when the ocean mist and fog lifts exposing the warming rays of the sun.

People here don’t stand on their balconies rather they put potted plants and flowers on them to create nice window vignettes for passerby’s to admire.

Be prepared to see loads and loads of beautiful flowers, plants and tree’s as  you walk.  I have been in the backyard of some of these beautiful cottages and you would be amazed what you would find there.  There are thousands of beautiful and often rare flowers in this neighborhood.

I live near a street called Dune Lane – probably one of the most beautiful streets in the city of San Diego.  My neighbors house is pictured here.  There are 6 homes in the neighborhood that are called “Spite” homes.  I live in one of them, and my neighbor in another.  The Spite homes were built by a lady in 1950 who was upset a the city of La Jolla so she built simple wood constructed homes that were not fancy like the rest of the neighborhood.  Those homes were built on smaller lots and built without many of the frills in the typical beach cottage style of California.  She wanted to sell them to less economically advantaged buyers to bring down the neighborhood a bit.  I am so very happy she did that.

My cottage is a source of pure joy and happiness for me.  I often wake up here (much like many of my neighbors) and wonder how I have been so lucky to live in such a charmed place.  Life is beautiful here.

Beautiful sights and homes abound in the charming neighborhood called Beach Barber Tract.  It is a place I am proud to call home.

Best Place to Take Pictures in New Mexico

Posted on Apr 24, 2012 in Travel

I was in White Sands New Mexico walking through the middle of the desert and I came upon a nice looking tree.  Now it obviously doesn’t rain here much, and the ground is just sand; dry sand, dryer than any desert in the world.  So how does it survive.  It turns out that there are several tricks plants use to survive in arid landscapes.  They have small leave.  Small leaves require less moisture to grow.  Since there is so much sun the plant does not need too much leave space to pull in the suns rays anyways.  They have deep roots.  The trees in the desert, like this one have roots 80 feet deep.  Think about that.  That is about 10 times the length of roots in your backyard.  That allows them to soak up so much more water during the dry months.  The last thing is that these plants grow very slowly.  They preserve their energy by growing much slower than trees in your backyard.   This tree for example has never had a gardner come in and trip its branches.

Desert nature is certainly beautiful, and no place is more picturesque or nice to photograph than White Sands. I posted my pictures at this location if you want to see some beautiful pictures of a beautiful place.

I believe White Sands New Mexico is one of the most beautiful places in the world and that is why I recommend it as the best place to take photos in New Mexico.
